Bulletproof Coffee


W hen I began researching how to follow the Ketogenic way of eating I came across Bulletproof coffee. And I’m not going to lie…it sounded absolutely disgusting. 1 cup of coffee with 1 tablespoon of butter and coconut oil? {YUCK}

But, wanting to really give this whole Keto thing a chance, I decided I was going to go in head first and follow the tips and advice I gathered from my research, and a big one was having Bulletproof coffee. So the next morning I poured myself a cup of coffee, I added 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and I stirred until everything had melted and blended together. It wasn’t horrible – but it wasn’t good either.

Everyone raves about this stuff..I knew I had to be missing something.

So after more research I saw that people put all of the ingredients into a blender to mix this breakfast concoction, and on occasion add a tablespoon of heavy whipping cream. Ding! Ding! Ding! That was the trick. That was the secret. The next morning when I tried Bulletproof coffee after mixing it in the blender… that was a horse of a different color.

So what are the benefits of drinking Bulletproof coffee instead of eating breakfast?

Starting your day with a carbohydrate-heavy breakfast such as: cereal, yogurt and granola, pancakes, toast, fruit, etc will spike your blood sugar. Do you crash mid-morning and find yourself needing a snack? That is your blood sugar crashing. After your quick burst of energy, you’ll be hungry, fatigued, and unfocused.

If you start your day with Bulletproof coffee though, you will experience this:

  • appetite suppression
  • increased {and longer lasting} energy
  • mental clarity

In an interview with Women’s Health, Kerry Bajaj at Eleven-Eleven Wellness says, drinking Bulletproof coffee is an easy way to make sure you are getting healthy fats first thing in the morning. If you start your day with healthy fats, not only will you experience appetite suppression, increased energy, and mental clarity, but Bulletproof coffee also supports your hormonal system.

Why do I choose Bulletproof coffee?

I prefer to drink a couple cups of Bulletproof coffee in the morning. I fill my 30 oz Yeti with 2 cups of Bulletproof coffee and I drink it over a 4 hour period. That keeps me full all. day. long. I feel great. I’m not hungry. And a good amount of fat gets consumed at the beginning of my day. When you are eating a high fat diet, it’s important to get fat in whenever you can. You really don’t want to skimp on the fat intake. Fat burns fat.

My recipe for Bulletproof coffee is below:

  • 1 cup of premium coffee
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter (or Ghee) {I prefer unsalted butter to Ghee.. but Ghee is the healthier choice}
  • 1 scoop MCT oil powder {you can also use coconut oil – I have found that Harris Teeter brand is the best tasting}
  • 1 scoop Pure Hydrolyzed Collagen Peptides {optional – but the collagen helps tighten your skin}
  • 1 tbsp heavy whipping cream {optional – I add this if I’m in the mood for cream}
