Why Keto?

W ith all of the diets and workout programs across the globe – why Keto? Ummmm.. because I can have as much bacon as I want!!

The Ketogenic diet consists of a high fat – moderate protein – and very low carb way of eating {WOE}. This is NOT the same thing as the Atkins diet. The Atkins diet incorporates too much protein, and an excess amount of protein acts the same as carbohydrates. We don’t want carbohydrates, or anything acting like carbohydrates.

When implementing the Keto WOE there is no need for you to count calories. Instead, you will be keeping track of your macro-nutrients {or macros}. Your macros are fat, protein, and carbohydrates. You can figure out what your target macros should be based on the weight you are trying to maintain – or your goal weight. Let’s use the weight of 125 for an example of how to figure out your macros.

For someone who has a goal weight of 125 pounds, they will set their fat target to 125 grams.

Your protein goal is half of your fat grams. A person with a goal of 125 pounds will set their protein target to 62.5 grams.

Your goal for carbohydrates should be < 20 grams per day. And this is the count for NET carbs. In order to find the NET carbs, you will take the total amount of carbohydrates per serving, and subtract out the fiber and sugar alcohols.

The neat thing about Keto is I never .. I repeat NEVER want to cheat. I do not miss the carbs and I have no desire to eat them. Any other diet I have ever tried has made me feel deprived of everything I can’t have – so after a few weeks in, I have a cheat meal and there goes that diet. I have completed a 10 day cleanse before … worst 10 days of my life. I couldn’t have carbs or dairy for the whole 10 days. I never felt full, I ate all day long, I was miserable. I stuck it out for those 10 days, and I lost about 5 pounds, but boy if I didn’t gain the weight back the following week. Deprived. Other diets made me feel deprived. That’s why they never worked.

With Keto, I’m not deprived of anything. Sure, I can only have up to 20 grams of carbohydrates a day, and one slice of bread is approximately 40, but I do not miss carbs. I don’t miss them because I can still have things like cheese and ranch dressing – oh, and bacon! What other diet allows ranch dressing.. Or mayonnaise.. or bacon? For real though, I think I don’t miss carbs because I find alternatives so I can still make my favorite meals. I have pizza, grilled cheese, bagels, biscuits, CAKE, ice cream, the list goes on and on. I want to find and/or create recipes to all of your {and my} favorite meals to share with you on this blog.
